Story behind Development

I'm Lance, the solo developer behind Dashwalk Dueling. Platform fighters and fighting games have been my favorite genres of games since I got into playing them more seriously. I first started off on the Wii playing brawl with my siblings before discovering competition years later.

Dashwalk Dueling started as an attempt to remake my favorite mechanic from the game I was most interested in — Dashwalking. At the time I didn't have access to the game, but I wanted to dash around in it more than anything. Before I knew it I had taken things far beyond just that simple prototype, so I started bringing my laptop to local events to get feedback from other competitors in the community.

Everyone who played it seemed to have a great deal of fun with the game. I did my best to follow the fun, and from the very start had decided that I wanted to focus on deeply expressive grounded movement. I replaced the grounded jump with a grounded movement option and never looked back.

Dashwalk Dueling has been my opportunity to turn the platform fighting genre on its head. Experimenting with new ideas while having the privilege to test them out multiple times a month with my giant family and at fighting game tournaments!

Competition

Dashwalk Dueling comes from a place of competition, playtested throughout development with first-to-ten sets at competitive fighting game events. The game is designed to be fair to players, robust for competition — and finally fast to ensure competitions can run quickly and smoothly. Features like training mode are built to be used as tools for those delving into the game's deepest depths, making it easier to explore the game's sea of expression. We hope you give training mode a shot!
